Smoking
Smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable diseases and death worldwide. The image above starkly illustrates the devastating effects of smoking on the human body.
The person holding the cigarette represents millions of smokers worldwide who unknowingly or unwillingly expose themselves to deadly toxins. The smoke curling upwards symbolizes the toxic substances being inhaled, which directly affect the lungs and other vital organs.
On the left, the damaged, blackened lung shows the long-term consequences of smoking, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung cancer and emphysema. In contrast, the healthy lung on the right highlights the stark difference in lung health between smokers and non-smokers.
Additionally, the heart depicted in the image symbolizes the cardiovascular risks associated with smoking, such as heart disease, stroke, and hypertension. Smoking constricts blood vessels, increases blood pressure and damages the heart over time.
The dark and somber tone of the image emphasizes the grave dangers that smoking poses to human health. Quitting smoking is one of the most important steps an individual can take to protect their health and prolong their life.
